there are three (3!) recent western tv shows about lawyers that have canon f/f and while i'm wary to fully enjoy that (they're ongoing shows, anything could happen), i am so happy!

- For The people; bi(?)/lesbian. neat freak and a hot, carefree fbi agent, this is a dream coming true.

- Proven Innocent; bi/lesbian. the mc is getting into a relationship with a dude, but she has an ex-girlfriend whom she has a special bond with.

- The Good Fight; lesbian/lesbian. they're thinking about getting married.

Anyone watching? Autostraddle just posted an article about the canon f/f and it sounds RIGHT up my alley... except for how CW shows are almost always terrible.

(speaking as someone with a long fannish history in CW shows)

Is it worth it? What's the dynamic like?

partially worth it I'd say. not worth it because they don't have enough scenes together that can fulfill their storyline in a satisfying way or how it's usually done (the two actually were absent from several episodes), which honestly left me disappinted, but maybe that's on me for expecting much.

worth it because they are witches, and their dynamics are like evil/good, but the evil part is sometimes driven by Penelope's love for Josie(good witch) and wanting to protect her. also worth it because Penelope is such a tease, I love her.

So how many anons are still here and why did this place die so quick?

I haven't gone anywhere! But I tend to lurk more than I talk. And my f/f ships are mostly rarepairs in fandoms that aren't super f/f-focused, so I didn't have much to contribute to start with. :/

I'm 75% in rarepairs hell, too, that's why I hoped the general threads would pick up activity.

What are you ships?

It's all live-action of questionable quality, with me! I was one of the people talking in the Dark Matter (TV) thread for a little while there, and I like the DCEU and ship Diana with all the women, even the ones she hasn't met. :D More recently I ended up bingeing Siren (TV), which I actually really enjoy - and I don't mind the canon OT3, but the Ryn/Maddie moments are my favorites. Biggest ship I've got is probably old-school Xena/Gabrielle!

aaaaaaaaa I don't want to oversell you on this, I DOUBT IT CAN BE CALLED LEGIT 50-50. I was really pleased with it, but that's because my expectations were low af and I was bracing myself for some YA triangle bullshit where the girls only kissed in my head. So getting something where they'd actually made an effort to have Ryn/Maddie scenes without Guy in sight blew my mind ... but if you go in looking for that from the start, it's probably not as "!!!!!!" as it felt to me. /o\

There's definitely some good personal-space-invasion and kissing and stuff - the show really leans into the "scary fucking apex predator" angle with the mermaids, so S2 has Ryn straight-up murder a guy for hurting Maddie which was super hot to me, help. But I cannot tell a lie, there's also a lot of boring manfeelings, you may be better off sticking with all the fmvs you can find!

In the broadest interpretation: An older (check) man (or not) who is a baddie (check), deals drugs and does other shady shit (check) and is richer than God (very check)--that then gets reeled into a fling with a younger girl replete with a lot of the trappings of decadent Americana (Ashe is a cowgirl, so fucking check), while staying very in-charge (my business, my rules) and dominant. Shades of Lolita optional but desirable.

The problem with this is I don't especially know of any Overwatch characters that fit the other side of this dynamic? I guess you could go D.Va for maximum dirtybadwrong? But good luck getting people to sign off on any D.Va f/f that isn't with Brigitte or her MEKA teammate who is literally a portrait. I guess Sombra is younger than Ashe and it could be hot (and I wrote the Ashe/Sombra snippet on FFA, but dememe's deadzo), but I don't know that I completely buy that ship myself. Because Sombra's the kind of character who doesn't get into anything that doesn't serve her ulterior motive, and Ashe is very much on the periphery of whatever plot-dominating conspiracy exists in the world of Overwatch, except as she's relevant to McCree (and I don't like the specter of a man hanging over my F/F).

TBH, Ashe had the bad luck to bounce off a fandom that has a bug up its ass about white women. I was kinda disappointed with her too in the beginning because I found her design kinda generic anime/MOBA (to the point where there is, apparently by pure coincidence?, also a skinny white-haired lady named Ashe in League of Legends), and felt that she could stand to look a little more "weathered cowgirl criminal" and a little less "Instagram girl". But you know what, if fanon can spin McCree into a vaguely racist caricature in a binder, then Ashe can be a grizzled MILF in my head. Thusly:

The people who are shipping Ana/Ashe... like I support you, but BOOO, those are not my Ana ships. >:[ The other Ashe ship that appears to be around in the fandom is Ashe/Widowmaker... which gets a solid "meh" from me.

(The other thing about Ashe is that, like D.Va, she doesn't really have a lot of canonical ties to other female characters in the cast--or to anyone besides McCree--and unlike D.Va, she wasn't a launch character who had time to accumulate mounds of fanon and favoritism. And like, fanon is half of Overwatch. LOLRIP.)

I literally JUST found this place. I'd long abandoned ffa because of the weirdness surrounding juggernaut f/f ships but I was looking up old wank and a mention of this meme came up in search, and off I go.

I won't lie, I'm super sad I seemed to have missed the busyness of its early days. But I got a great fic rec out of reading old threads (and also someone RECCED ME I AM CRYING) and I'm just glad that it exists. I have missed meme'ing. Also I think it's worth noting that because this meme -- by nature? -- lacks the usual less-femslash-oriented threads (general opinions, observed wank, food, etc) it's just going to move slower than ffa, which can generate a lot of activity even for people whose fandoms or fandom threads are quiet that day/week. I'm hoping that doesn't mean it'll die, though.
