Re: wank containment area

I mean, as I said above, I thought it was funny immediately because of the reasons you listed in your first paragraph. But I feel like contextually the repeated bringing it up (in part because it upsets people who aren't even that original anon) as if it remains the funniest and most karmic thing to ever happen does feel... I hate to say "unfortunate" but that's really the best word I can think of?

It's like, hm. It's like if you have asshole wanky anti shippers who ship X/Y and that ship happens to be gay. Yeah, a lot of people are going to be pleased and amused if it's obvious that ship's never going to happen. But occasionally you'll get the "X author/studio/company/Hollywood in general is never going to let this gay ship happen hahahahaha idiots," and that feels messed up even if their reasoning for being happy about it isn't because the ship is gay. It becomes... kind of a reminder that a lot of people seem to be gleeful about hurtful tropes and societal homophobia so long as someone they don't like is upset about it.

By this point it basically feels like the repetition and repeated joyful bringing up of the CLEXA, FUCKED meme can't be extricated from the absolutely shitty way that the show did the Bury Your Gays trope in practice, when the original thread easily could be. So the more it gets brought up, the less it feels like just a reaction to that anon and more "haha, shit trope was worth it if some fandom wankers were upset." If that makes sense? Especially since some anons over there seem especially insistent on bringing it up after anyone says it makes them uncomfortable.
