I really hate the way F/F and M/M are often pitted against each other in fandom discussions. What exactly makes people think the two are somehow incompatible or in competition with each other? I hear this so much less frequently about het, and it can't just be because of ~fandom statistics~ or whatever.

Like, if you don't care for one or the other, that's cool! Nobody's obligated to like anything in particular when it comes to fandom or anything else! But saying the two... idk, genres, for lack of a better word, are somehow At Odds With Each Other, Like Oil and Water, Like Cats and Dogs, I Tell You! is such a false dichotomy and it annoys the shit out of me.
