Re: The wildest takes

ayrt I did some dememing and found this pretty hilarious post where she says some shows don't have a Tobin and therefore are doomed to flop, because ~that's just how people work! (She has difficulty with the concept of other people being different to her.) Some choice misogyny from the asker:

[Legends of Tomorrow] is one of the few cases where i’m like, “no but sara’s the main character for real.” and then i look around and i’m like, “okay but who is she being written For?” and i can’t figure it out. maybe rip?? maybe oliver?? lmao. that’s actually a problem i have with quite a few “female driven” shows that i wanted to ask you about. like the bold type or sweet/vicious or grace and frankie, where i look around and i’m like, “okay but are there even any dudes on this show?” any thoughts??

CU replies: it says a hell of a lot that almost all shows do have this structure in some form, but what’s even MORE telling is the DIFFERENCE between shows with a strong Ted/Tobin, vs shows with a weak Ted/Tobin or none at all. The difference in creative drive, and the difference in audience investment. Writers do sometimes try to be ~quirky and do something different from Ted/Tobin, it’s just that in these cases they almost always flop–and they never generate the same kind of lasting insane audience loyalty that Ted/Tobin shows do.
Unfortunately, fandom doesn’t like distinguishing between different kinds of investment, it acts like casual reblogs are on the same level as the kind of shipping/stanning that leads people to follow interviews and spoilers minutely day-to-day and obsess over the endgame until the very last second of the series final

...did HIMYM generate any lasting audience loyalty, other than this singular loony? It didn't exactly seem like a juggernaut from the outside, even when it was still showing.
