Wynonna Earp S2 was Very Badly Written and I don't understand why the rest of the fandom didn't notice?

Those of us who did notice mostly drifted away from the fandom.

IDK. I give them a lot of credit for rolling with Melanie Scrofano's pregnancy and writing it into the season at the last minute, but it can't have helped make the plotting easier. Although some of their other choices, like the way they kept trying to inject drama into Wayhaught, usually by making Waverly hold the idiot ball, can't really be attributed to that, so who knows.

I did like the new characters they added last season, though. (I haven't caught up on S3 yet, but I'm preparing to be annoyed there isn't more Merdeces.)

AYRT

There were a lot of obvious interesting possibilities that they didn't explore, and a lot of time-wasting filler. The Wayhaught stuff felt like 50% fanservice and 50% half-hearted attempts to create drama that were never followed up on (because exactly no character threads were followed up on).

Also the whole season was like Idiot Ball netball.

... I don't really know why I kept watching, except that I am very, very short of shows to watch and desperate for canon femslash that doesn't get killed off or cancelled. And also I loved the shit out of Season 1, I don't really know what happened.

ayrt "Idiot ball netball" is a good description.

I just like the setting and the characters. The plot went some pretty stupid places, but the setting is so pretty that I'll watch it for that as long as they don't kill off my faves. (Well, kill off more of my faves. I really loved Willa.)

Re: WayHaught: I get that they don't want the ship to feel static, but I feel like there were ways they could have injected some tension into that without anyone having to hold the idiot ball. Waverly's past is interesting, and they could have handled that way better. They could have done more with Nicole being on the outside of BBD. Or bring in some outside parties, and run with a plotline about Wynonna being friends with Nicole but maybe not comfortable with her moving in (but also not willing to let Waverly leave the safety of the Homstead).

I noticed. I fumed. I didn’t want to shit on anyone’s fun, so I quietly dropped the show when they kept dropping my favorite character’s story lines.

I like Wynonna Earp, but to be honest I never watched it for the amazing writing in the first place.

Same, it's tropey fun I don't think too hard about. Doesn't make sense? eh, roll with it. Hot chick with a gun!
