For me, the top two necessary components are humiliation and despair. From there I am very much anything goes. The slave either starts out or grows to find her master attractive, or to wish for her affection, the master grows protective or fond of her slave and starts to treat her more as a partner or consort than object: Great, fun, excellent. One side or the other of that doesn't happen, and the slave pines for a master that will never care for her or the master deludes herself into think that what her slave is doing for survival means something deeper than it ever will? GREAT, fun, excellent. Affection never ever enters into the picture at all, except in the form of the master having affection for her slave's suffering and misery and how many new, different ways she can force her to degrade herself before her? YES, PLEASE, THE GREATEST FUNNEST MOST EXCELLENT OF ALL.

So basically anything goes but I want my dose of humiliation and despair at least at the start of it all.

Hurt/comfort. Specifically, the kind where the slave has had several abusive masters and is expecting her new master to be just like them, and is baffled by any kindness shown to her. Unfortunately, maybe it's because I'm not in any big f/f fandoms, or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, but it feels like this is kind of hard to come by in f/f?

Yeah. It's sad, is what it is. Slavefic is the best.

It was a big thing in Xena fandom, though.
