It's a fun thing to play with in fantasy/scifi verses that don't yet have vampires - Mon Mothma/Leia or Leia/Rey in Star Wars, for example (I want to read a million Force-users-are-also-vampires fics). I like it in cop/legal dramas too, for the angst of 'what happens to my fight for justice now that I'm a Literal Demon' - Gill/Rachel from Scott & Bailey come to mind immediately, especially since Rachel's already canonically such a disaster.
