Same: re: Vriska, but any pale ship I can think of for her (except for Vriska<>John) would turn flushed or caliginous soon. Maybe a girl John is the answer. Oooh, or Feferi? Feferi successfully unsettled Vriska that one time, it was great. OTOH, the thought of Vriska bursting Feferi's bubble of kindness and necessary orphaning is kind of terrifying.

Vriska<>Feferi could find a balance, I think. Maybe not a "help each other be better and emotionally healthier people" kind of moirallegiance but "help each other be more effective and useful to the establishment of a new Alternia", maybe.

Vriska wants to be the hero and tries to do many things for people, which means I could see her being OK with being in Feferi's service as long as Fef is properly appreciative. She likes trying to burst other people's bubbles when she lashes out, but I think it would be good for Feferi to have to confront things outside her bubble of privilege and good cheer.

Agreed fully re: Feferi! It'd be very functional, and I think they'd be good for each other. Maybe Feferi could give Vriska lots of - measured, playful - praise? Otoh, it doesn't feel like a very... romantic romance, to me? More just practical.

Vriska<>Roxy could be very sweet, but it'd have to be a fairly nice Vriska. Post-epilogue, or dead, I think. And definitely a post-canon Roxy. I think Vriska would actually really respect Roxy for getting her drinking under control when the battles started... but I shudder to think what Vriska would have done to vulnerable, drunk Roxy.

You're right that Fef<>Vriska is not super romantic. I kind of want Feferi to enter a strategic moiraillegiance with Vriska because the empire needs her and she needs papped, and then both of them develop these huge depths of protective/perhaps somewhat possessive feelings while still thinking it's just a moiraillegiance of convenience...

God, yeah, they'd need to be on an even level to have anything functional. Vriska doesn't do well on the higher side of a power difference, I think.

PALE COURTESAN AU. I cannot get over the artfully torn clothes, that is genius. Mom would definitely call her sweetie and maybe invite her into her lap? What a good concept. And maybe, as above, Vriska thinks it's primarily a practical arrangement and not true love... But she wants to tell her benefactor about her past, and she thinks Lalonde wouldn't get it, being a human, but Vriska feels compelled to be honest, like she would be with a Real Moirail... Some of the illustrations are broken but it's got Dave in a skirt with flippy hair and John's tiny pigtails are very cute. Yuri AUs should be more of a thing, in every fandom.

Oh, I love Feferi going all protective. And then Vriska has to pap her for the very first time, and it's all terribly fraught and meaningful.

I think Vriska in a position of less power works in certain situations (with a partner that is wise to her games and won't rub it in) because she's always trying to get more power but doesn't actually have a lot of things she wants to do with that power. She just wants to know she has it, and wants everyone else to know she has it too. So like, with Feferi it wouldn't matter very much that Feferi is Empress because Vriska doesn't want the 8oring work that is ruling an empire but Feferi doesn't mind her bragging about how she has the empress wrapped around her finger.

Yesss pale courtesans are the best courtesans! I feel like a performatively pappable partner would be a little bit similar to a 90s Disney idea of a bad boy, so like you roll up on a motorcycle and act a little tortured, but not too tortured. So Vriska's trying to hold back, but Mom won't stop teasing secrets out of her... The angst would be so delicious.

Agreed passionately re: yuri AUs. I still kinda want to write a Moonlight Garden AU of Homestuck where all the girl trolls are flower maidens and all the human girls are the brothel owners! (The guys would get a secluded brothel of their own, but presumably Nepeta and Equius would be forbidden secret platonic penpals.)

Anyways, I love your point about Vriska and social power. She wants it, but a. she really should not have it b. she doesn't enjoy it beyond the thrill of arranging everyone to fit her ideas of how the world should look. Kanaya - OBVIOUSLY SUNFLOWER (symbolizing the way she will become the brothel mistress’s favorite, and the brothel mistress happens to have a sun on her dress) (also symbolizing dedication and haughtiness)
Vriska - hyacinths (jealousy/sincerity/being very very very sorry)
Feferi - anemone (protection against ill wishes)
but I never decided on a flower for Terezi, nor am I sure what Vriska is sorry for in this verse.

I didn't get far with the guys, but there's Equius - tiger lily (nobility and wealth)! He and Nepeta can never ever touch, it is very sad. :D

YES, Elwurd got a friend sim route! And yes, Chahut was sizzling hot and calls people "darlin". There is another female troll who is, IMO, hotter than both Elwurd and Chahut! It is a very femslashable game. (oh! And there is a canon f<>f ship, sort of. :D)

Ooh, I love sunflower for Kanaya and of course Vriska is very sorry. And Nepeta and Equius are both lilies! I cannot imagine a Vriska in any universe without something to be sorry for.

The troll hotter than Chahut is Skylla. She is a tall, gentle butch who lives in the countryside and built her own kitchen table. Her lusus is a collie called Ladyy. Skylla takes in the player character because they were about to get scorched in the sun. She's sort of gently funny and generous without being invasive.

spoilers, in which I describe the entire route to make my point, plus part of another character's route

... then! Then Ladyy gets kidnapped by lusus bandits, and Skylla rushes out into the scorching Alternian noon sun and fistfights like 12 bandits to get Ladyy back, while getting severely burned! And the player helps her! And Ladyy also helps her! And Skylla, the player, and Ladyy all crawl back together to her hive, and she invites the player to share her sopor bed.

Later, Skylla hires a hit on all the bandits and gently black-flirts with the assassin.

In conclusion, get yourself a butch gf who can do both.
