I've decided which ship I'm going to write, since we did match on more than one. I have some broad ideas for how I'm going to start the fic and what the characters' relationship will be like, but there's a big question inherent to the premise of the ship (sorry to be vague, lol) that I have to decide how to answer before I can start, I think.

I haven't even narrowed down which canon yet. Do I write Fandom 1, where I'm a known quantity and feel like I have a reputation to live up to, or Fandom 2, where the fandom is mostly het and I'm comfortably obscure? Or branch out and write in New-To-Me Fandom 3, where I'd have to obtain canon?

I'd go with Fandom 3, unless you think there's a decant chance that you won't enjoy and/or have anything to say about the canon. If that's the case, I think it comes down to whether or not you think putting out more femslash into a het-heavy fandom is a worthy goal in itself; I wouldn't worry about your reputation, if you're popular in Fandom 1 I'm sure people will love whatever you come up with! (And probably read your older fics in that fandom too if they like your exchange fic.)

All good points! I've been meaning to try Fandom 3 for a while, and it won't be hard to get ahold of; maybe I'll start there.
