It's doing pretty well! It's not Bughead, but it's actually edging out Varchie on AO3 in spite of showing up in canon more recently, and there's 500+ works even if you exclude everything tagged M/F. (It's hard to dig down on popularity, though, since Choni is compatible with Varchie and Bughead, and the fandom likes to tag background ships.)

TBH I think Varchie has like... six people who really ship them (as opposed to Bughead shippers deming it "convenient background ship" and "it's nice if they're together so no Archie/Betty!"). Choni's def more "popular popular."
