I don't know how we're supposed to be doing sub-threads but here we go. This episode introduces several storylines but not much really happens.

Notes:

- Ok I just have to say Wapourif is adorable.

- I keep looking at the outfits in this episode. The sibylla pilot uniform is kind of fanservicey, but not terribly so. The different variations on the suspender-stockings with bra/vest thing are cool character details, actually. Floe shows a lot of skin but comes off rather juvenile, compared to Morinas who just looks hot (So. Many. Ass. Shots.). Rodoreamon's look is very feminine and girlish, and Paraietta's got this long elegant flowy thing happening which I've never fully appreciated before. Alti and Kaimu are wearing the exact same outfit in different colours hmm. Aaeru has kind of a cute hippie thing going but I can't decide if it's supposed to look provincial or alternative.

- Fashion analysis addendum: so all the little girls who follow Neviril around, the sibyllae in training, they all have plain brown hair. I guess becoming a simoun pilot turns your hair purple or blue or whatever. Tempus Spatium is wild.

- Ugh Paraietta YOU TRY SO HARD. Ilu.

- These early signs of conflict between Alti and Kaimu. ~So ~mysterious. What could be up with them?? (Lol, let me say I was not expecting what it turns out to be.)

- Neviril coming in like a christ figure at the end. They all fall in behind their leader. Neviril definitely has command presence that she wields when she wants to. But her persona is very much about being what other people need her to be, expect her to be, and we're seeing her for the first time where she just can't. Poor traumatised bb.

I feel as if this episode was mostly going for setup and atmosphere.

compared to Morinas who just looks hot

She really does. Hurrah for Morinas.

Neviril still has plenty of presence even when she's out of it. I have to hand it to her for managing to talk to people politely even at a time like that.

I liked Morinas and Aaeru going ahead with the maaju. As newcomers they have more drive than the rest. (Limone was more tentative, though.) They haven't gone through the trauma of members of the team dying or leaving. It's easy to see why Chor Tempest simply cannot get itself together without Neviril, although Paraietta was trying incredibly hard.

Apparently Wapourif's a dude! I wonder how long it takes to transition after visiting the spring. Do those who choose to stay women have physical changes as well? It would be interesting if, for example, choosing to be a woman means you get your period for the first time at that age.

I love that Morinas just wants the freaking dismantle the sybilla and see how they work. Honestly, I love that the newer recruits have completely different opinions/worldviews than the existing priestesses. It makes for an interesting clash (and also on the trope level I'm not a fan of the priestess worldview in general, it's like they think they're in a slice of life anime about fancy yuri school but no, this is war!).

Everyone looks up to Neviril so much and it is neither healthy nor sustainable! People putting her above them as their ace/leader/perfect holy priestess just isolates her from them. That's why I'm not exactly shipping Neviril/Paraietta, no matter how hot the loyalty thing is.

Morinas and Aaeru fighting over Neviril is the funniest thing.

Oh man, that makes a lot of sense! God, I really hope this gets some fic soon - it doesn't even have to be femslash, there's just so much to explore about the characters and world.
