Man, I'd forgotten about them! They really had a great dynamic together. I feel like it would be hard to write non-smut with characters tied that far into the meta, too, which makes the persistent why does everyone have to look 12 even worse. I mean, would Erika just...idk, go around the multiverse like the most psychotic detective with Dlanor monitoring her? (It's been a while since I've played.) Meta characters are just weird if you're trying to write anything that isn't a one-shot.

I also ship Bernkastel/Erika, but I would never write porn even if they looked older because that's too fucked up even for me. I just can't do porn where I have the sinking feeling that someone's going to get tortured to death in the middle, you know?

Yeah, that's the problem I have, that I wouldn't know how to write something that required more plot or even more... acknowledgment of context? than a PWP for the meta characters. I think I could manage Ange/Mammon (which I also ship, but it's waaaay less fucked up than the other two), at least pre-canon/while Ange was at school, but with Lambda/Bern and Erika/Dlanor it's like... yeah, I don't know, outside of the events of the game, what I'd even write them as doing.

Yeah, acknowledgement of context is a good way of putting it. I was trying to write something non-smutty for Lambda/Bern a while ago, and I could maybe do them as a crossover for a canon similar in context to Umineko's context and explore how they might work in a different interesting disaster? But that would be using another canon to ground Umineko's weirdness and what canon would actually work that I have no idea.

Ange/Mammon during school would be a lot of fun, though.

Oh, I love the crossover idea! But I also have no idea what canons it would work for. It would have to be something that's also long and twisty and murdery to be worthy of Bern and Lambda's attention. ... Something like Dangan Ronpa, maybe? Though I've been functionally out of that fandom because I can't afford the third game.

Someday, I will finally write the Ange/Mammon that I've been thinking about for ages. Someday.
