I'd never thought of Eurydice/Persephone but it's a fascinating concept. Do you prefer it before or after Orpheus tries to fetch her?

NA Horrible version: Persephone fancied her so she sent the snake that bit her so she could have her in the underworld.

I've been thinking about this further, and:

Let's say they met in springtime. Eurydice is an oak nymph, a daughter of Apollo, so why wouldn't they meet when Persephone runs freely across the earth, without any cares or duties? I bet she plays with all the nymphs. But Eurydice, she likes her a lot. So much so that when she returns from a winter below only to find her married, she's enraged. Like dude, she wasn't done with that one yet!

So she sends a viper, and swallows her up. (and can I just say, think about Persephone re-enacting her own primordial trauma on other maidens. hmmm.)

Now this is kind of a divergence from the myth as I've heard it, but... what if it were Eurydice who was not allowed to look back if she wished to ascend, but couldn't resist a backward glance.

Ohhh, nonny. Yes. I love this, especially fucked-up Persephone, and Eurydice both yearning for the light of the sun again and drawn to Persephone despite herself... (and the parallels between the pomegranate scene and Eurydice looking back!)

AYRT I think I got it from a Le Guin story, where Persephone says "my friend the singer's wife." And of course they seem to have a connection in the folk opera/musical Hadestown.

I hadn't thought about pre- or post-Orpheus much, that's interesting. If it was after, they could console each other about being stuck there. Except Persephone does get to leave, and Eurydice wouldn't.
