I'm realizing now I could have just put this in the starter comment because here, femslashy anime and manga doesn't need to be a subthread of anime and manga!

Anyway, what are your favorite canon or shippy pairings in anime and manga, or favorite femslashy anime and manga? I need recs! Here are some of mine:

Rose of Versailles (love it more for Oscar as a character than for Oscar/Marie and Oscar/Rosalie, but they are certainly superior to the het ships in the show, and any f/f ship with a female knight type character is going to be my jam) - starts off campy, but is surprisingly engaging and historically detailed
Princess Principal (Charlotte/Ange) - this is so good! Steampunk spies!
Simoun (Neviril/Aeru) - another one that's good as a show in general besides having great f/f pairings.

Also watched: Revolutionary Girl Utena (I like the show but maybe I need to rewatch it to get more into Utena/Anthy properly), Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Homura/Madoka is a classic!), Izetta the Last Witch (love the loyalty kink between Finé and Izetta, but I like Finé more than Izetta). Magical Girl Raising Project has a canon lesbian couple in a supporting role but I would have preferred a more intense f/f or femslashy relationship with the lead.

I've, er, never actually watched Sailor Moon. I know I should! Noir is also on my list as soon as the fucking watching group I'm in can get our schedules together. Manga-wise, I have Hana no Kishi and am pretty sure I will love it, but haven't started it yet. Also have Secret of the Princess, but am not a huge slice of life person, is it good?

Oh and Kashima Yuu should be with all the ladies

Noir is really good, I hope you enjoy it nonnie when you get around to watching it! It's one of my favourite animes of all time. And Simoun is another of them!

I've enjoyed Onii-sama e/Dear Brother but haven't got to read/watch Rose of Versailles yet, I really should!

Revolutionary Girl Utena is one of my big favorites. I only got into it 5 years ago but have already seen it 3 times, I think it's definitely a series that you gain something from rewatching. Ikuhara's Yuri Kuma Arashi was a bit disappointing next to it but it was still fun.

I also really liked PMMM and Simoun! And Noir too from what I remember but it's been forever since I've seen it, maybe I should do a rewatch.

Secret of the Princess is pretty cute! I don't normally like fake-dating, but I gave it a try because I love Morinaga Milk's other works, and this time it really worked for me, and the ending is really great.

Noir is really good too. The first half is pretty slow with all the flashbacks (and on a rewatch you notice how heavy-handed the foreshadowing is with the timing of the flashbacks), but the plot really gets moving when Chloe and Altena show up, and overall the plot and relationship between Mirelle and Kirika are really satisfying.

Izetta/Finé is one my my favorite pairings too, and for MGRP, my favorite pairings ended up being Snow White/Hardgore Alice and Snow White/Ripple, and I also really like Snow White/La Pucelle and Sister Nana/Weiss Winterprison too.

Black Rock Shooter is pretty femslashy, iirc.

I had to stop watching WataMote because it was too painfully relatable - not so much because of my life now, but it reminded me too much of myself in high school - but I liked the main girl's relationship with her one friend.

My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness is more a memoir but I like it a lot.

I would totally go for a crossover fic where Kashima just travels interdimensionally to seduce all the girls. Actually, I'd love one where she and Nishina from WataMote try to out-prince each other but end up dating instead.

Terrible trashy yuri anime I have enjoyed:

Sakura trick: Girls Kissing The Anime. No plot or real character growth just a bunch of cute highschool girls kissing.
NTR: This got a bit much for me but dubcon cheating with mutual angst was certainly a change from the usual fluff
Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid: Girls with implausibly large breasts fight with the power of vaguely drawn f/f orgasms. A bit "we're not gay we just have to fight with the power of orgasms" on the part of one half of the main couple.

I've been meaning to watch Flip Flappers, which I have heard is cute.

Flip Flappers is cute, yeah! It has some great animation as well as good f/f potential. Story-wise, I thought the episodes were a bit of a mixed bag but it's a short series and worth giving it a shot.

I like Flip Flappers. The animation is also gorgeous. But the thing is, the plot really went off the rails in the second half and soured my view of the characters.
