Listen, Lexa's death was absolutely an example of the media trend of killing off gay characters for the drama, but she wasn't killed off because she's gay. The actress left the show because she got a main part in another show, which would do you well to mention sometimes. Could she have been written out without being killed off? Yes. Did "the ship fail because of societal homophobia"? No.
