Shows or novels or comics or webcomics everything works as long as there's some speculative fiction element. But I'm really really deeply in want of canon where the shippable ladies are hardcore rivals of some sort (even romantic rivals for some dude is fine, as long as there is significant interaction and sparks and care between the two). Childhood friends who had a fallout and are now bitter rivals (who still care for each other) is The Best, but I'll take whatever I get for this dynamic, honestly.

The two main pairings from Little Witch Academia are rivalships! First there's Akko/Diana, where main character Akko has a fun rivalry with frenemy Diana - they're high school aged. The ship that might interest you most however is Ursula/Croix, teachers at the school, and 'childhood friends who had a fallout and are now bitter rivals (who still care for each other)' is basically exactly them. (Croix doesn't show up until the second part of the series, though, fyi.)

It's a cute 26 episode anime that is basically Hogwarts but with all girls, and it's a lot of fun!

Croix is unfairly hot. Her Alternative Lifestyle Haircut! Her stupid cape! I want a million Ursula/Croix fics.

Legend of the Seeker!

Cara/Kahlan is a pretty popular ship, and both are magic users but from opposing factions. Kahlan is a Confessor, meaning she can enslave people by touching them and then they obey/love her blindly. Cara is a Mord'sith and can enslave magic users and torture, and she works for the main villain, and her storyline in season two is basically learning how to be good and have feelings and emotions while Kahlan slowly gets over her distrust of Cara. There are some great episodes where they must overcome their mutual distrust of each other.

Michiko to Hatchin takes place in a dystopian future Brazil; Michiko is a former gang member who broke out of prison, and her childhood friend Atsuko is now a cop who's obsessed with catching Michiko, theoretically for justice!!! but mostly actually because she's always had a crush on Michiko.
