Who wants to discuss the ladies of legend?

I feel like this is an apt place to post this short story retelling of the legend of Qixi with teen Chinese girls, one of which is GOING TO BOARDING SCHOOL IN AMERICA FOREVER:

Oh, this is beautiful, and sad, and oh. I love it.

I think I could dig Artemis/Hera. Or Artemis/Hestia. Or Artemis/Athena or Artemis/Persephone and basically Artemis is my Greek myth f/f bicycle.

Re: Mythology

Kinda same, with one caveat- I don't think Artemis is interested in drama. Hera always comes with drama.

And my personal headcanon for Athena is that she's got it in her head that she's too rational for base urges, so I tend to ship her with Aphrodite who would take such an attitude as a challenge. I feel like Artemis wouldn't be bothered with seducing her while she's still mixed up over it. I really like the idea of Artemis/Persephone though. Summer loving. And Artemis/Iphigenia really interests me. I wish there was fic.

I wish we had more myths about her and her companions that weren't about dudes butting in. :( I'm going to go hunt for some now.

It feels pretty natural to ship her with amazones

See, that's why I'm into it! Artemis wants everything to be drama-free in a way that makes sense, Hera is the prototypical Messy Bitch Who Lives For Drama and yet! Somehow they're drawn to each other!

Through their connection Hera learns that sometimes she has to emotionally disengage and not take things personally, and Artemis learns that she's not as objective as she thinks she is and sometimes, yes, it can be fun to be petty.

Ooh, that Athena/Aphrodite headcanon is extremely RTMI. Especially if it's the sort of situation where Aphrodite starts out just trying to prove a point/her superiority/whatever, and Athena's determined to not be interested--well, maybe she should investigate for science--maybe just a little bit more investigation--and then they both end up kind of in over their heads and way more emotionally entangled than either intended.

I'd never thought of Eurydice/Persephone but it's a fascinating concept. Do you prefer it before or after Orpheus tries to fetch her?

I love fixits for the Oresteia where Clytemnestra still kills Agamemnon but is like, "eh, not your fault" to Cassandra and they end up co-ruling Mycenae.

They're Sumerian, right? I'd be very interested in hearing your f/f telling of it, if you have the time. (I know I could just go and look at wikipedia, but... wiki can be pretty dry and i want it wet)

All this talk of Persephone inspired me to go back and read the homeric hymm to Demeter again and. I love Demeter so much.

Re: Mythology- femslash in the canon?

(Anonymous) 2018-08-22 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, does anyone know of any myths/folklore where the femslash is canon? (as far as there is such a thing as canon for folklore/mythology) I know of Callisto and that's it, but there must be more out there... somewhere...

Re: Mythology- femslash in the canon?

Hi'iaka from Hawaii is bi and has relationships with women, most famously Hopoe. In some legends, Ganesh is born from Parvati making Malini drink the oils from her body, which is both gay and fpreg.

It's hard to tell what's historical canon sometimes because there are so many reinterpretations both by queer women reclaiming their deities and by homophobes intent on reframing queer stories as "close friends" or "handmaidens".

Re: Mythology- persephone/hecate or demeter/hecate?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-01 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't decide which I like more. Hecate is often a primordial goddess or a titan, this kind of wise and old and kind and mysterious being, from generations even before Demeter, and she helps her search and I could imagine her going to Hades to watch of Demeter's baby and it's all very nice, but... I also kind of want her to be Persephone's mentor/lover (in that greek tradition of homoerotic teacher/student relations) who helps her take control of Hades and establish herself as queen, then stays as her companion. ...both at the same time seems a bit nefarious, but then again...

Idk, I'd love to hear other people's thoughts.

Re: Mythology- persephone/hecate or demeter/hecate?

Definitely Persephone/Hecate.

Re: Mythology

(Anonymous) 2018-10-03 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
has anyone else read the f/f hades/persephone book, where hades is a woman too? i forget what it's called "the dark wife" or something? it's good, though the author played up zeus' negative aspects a bit much (imo) and added some (imo) unnecessary lesbophobic elements such as f!hades still being called "king" of the dead because zeus is mocking her for liking girls and f!hades is too much of a shut-in so nobody who hasn't met her already knows she's a woman, so just fyi if those kind of things bother you.

The Dark Wife! It's released for free.

I wasn't actually a fan of the prose or the character dynamics since I usually like pairings with more conflict, but I'm really glad it exists.
